“Sometimes when a door opens, you have to step inside, even if it’s uncomfortable,” said Clevette Price, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). “Taking a different position was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
Clevette came to Hendricks Regional Health from Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She had worked in Med-Surg Units for eight years and thought the time was right to explore a different specialty. “To navigate your path, you have to use your resources,” she said. Clevette tracked down the CBC director’s phone number and made her case. Her persistence paid off – she was offered a full-time night shift position in labor and delivery.
“I loved working in the CBC, but I wanted to keep challenging myself,” said Clevette. “To grow in your career and as a person, you have to be willing to pursue opportunities outside of your comfort zone.” After 10 wonderful years in labor and delivery, she talked to her manager about finding a position at HRH in a different specialty.
Clevette transferred to the PREP office (now the Outpatient Care Center). “It was my first Monday through Friday job ever!” she said. Two years later, she was named the unit’s clinical manager. In addition to the new role, Clevette went back to school. “I had a strong interest and passion for leadership,” she said. “I love being part of the Hendricks family, so I wanted to be prepared if another opportunity arose.” Clevette graduated from Western Governors University with her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management in December 2016. Less than six months later, she was named director of the CBC and Pediatrics.
Clevette is beyond thankful for the opportunities that have come her way. “I am where I am today because I am dedicated to nursing and I work hard,” she said. “People have seen my potential and given me the strength to challenge myself.”
Hendricks Regional Health President & CEO Dr. Michelle Fenoughty is one of those who saw Clevette’s potential. It’s why she named her CNO in 2023. “Clevette has decades of experience working in healthcare, but most importantly, she has earned the respect of everyone she has worked with,” she said. “It was important to me that our nursing staff be led by someone they respect.”
Knowing how valuable the support of her peers has been, Clevette is committed to paying that forward as CNO. “I was blessed with many opportunities at Hendricks over the years. They navigated me to where I am now,” she said. “I’m excited to be able to do the same for others.”
